I am an integrative counsellor which means that I can draw on and use different elements of specific therapies. My personal approach combines the use of psychodynamic, person centred, systemic and behavioural models of therapy.
Working this way appeals to me because I believe there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. We are all unique and therefore counselling techniques must be tailored to individual needs and personal circumstances.
On a personal note, I decided to train as a counsellor as I have experienced the relief that can come from being able to speak to someone unconnected to my world where I was able to say anything I felt that I needed to without being judged or blamed or told what I 'should/ought' to be doing. This is what I aim to provide for my clients ... a space to be seen and heard where together we can work through whatever you bring.
Training, qualifications and experience
In addition to a BACP Accredited Diploma in Integrative Counselling I also trained with Bromley Counselling and Bereavement Service and I have specialised training and extensive experience as a couples counsellor with RELATE.
Recently I completed further training on offering relaxation techniques including guided imagery and visualisation. So many of us are experiencing stress and anxiety but finding the time or focus on relaxation skills can be difficult. Practicing guided imagery and visualisation techniques is an effective way that I can help you to relax and distance yourself from your problems long enough to begin bringing about beneficial changes in how you think and behave.
As well as working in private practice for the past 8 years and for Relate I gained valuable experience in the voluntary sector at a counselling and social work agency in South East London. Issues I have worked with include depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, childhood sexual and emotional abuse, issues of identity, low self esteem and relationship difficulties.
I offer an initial free telephone consultation for you to tell me why you are thinking about having counselling. This also gives you an opportunity to see whether you feel an initial 'connection' with me. This sense of connection is so important when choosing a therapist
My fees are £55 per session for individuals and £65 per session for couples.
